Neurable announced today that it raised $13 million to support its one-of-a-kind, non-invasive brain-computer interface (BCI) technology.

Ultratech Capital Partners, TRAC, Pace Ventures and Metaplanet contributed to the funding round. It brings the Boston-based company’s total funding over $30 million to date.

Neurable develops easy-to-use neurotechnology, including the soon-to-launch AI-powered MW75 Neuro headphones. The company wants to use the new funding to continue expanding the build of its platform and provide non-invasive BCI to consumer audiences. This includes expanding its product portfolio, reference designs, algorithms and enabled systems. Neurable hopes to add earbuds, helmets and other various head-worn devices to its portfolio.

The technology uses electroencephalography (EEG) AI technology optimized for more compact form factors than traditional external brain wave monitoring devices. Its AI-powered platform records the wearer’s brain activity and gives people brain data in a non-invasive manner.

Neurable partnered with consumer wearable companies, including headphone company Master & Dynamic. It wants to embed EEG sensors into everyday technologies, with plans to introduce the first-ever BCI-enabled headphones. The company expects a launch this summer.

Additionally, after the funding, Neurable partnered with Air Force Research Lab’s 711 Human-Performance Wing. The partnership seeks to validate the technology and explore its usability in improving human performance. With this, the company secured $5 million in U.S. Defense Dept. contracts to further develop the technology.

“This new round of funding underscores our commitment to making Neurable’s brain-computer interface technology accessible to everyone,” said Dr. Ramses Alcaide, CEO and co-founder of Neurable. “We’re empowering individuals to understand their own mind, optimize human performance, and conquer the most pressing health challenges of our generation.”
