Developing your personal brand independent of your current employer?

Some of you might expect to be summoned to the Principal’s office and that is a shame.

Sharing your expertise online, educating, inspiring, and showing your value to the rest of your market is your right and responsibility.

Be careful what you spread though.
Amplification of something is not always a good thing.
Good and bad are also interpretive.

If done correctly though, you will increase an awareness in the market of your value, that may very well lead to:

– ongoing job offers
– bigger raises within your current employer
– better opportunities in your current organization

and once again, a visit to the Principal’s office with the inference of “why are you so active on LinkedIn? Are you looking for a job?”

Always and never is the answer.

On the other hand, if done poorly, you run the risk of creating a less than desirable name/brand for yourself.

You do you.
